Recovery Beyond Treatment

During my years as a counselor at Passages Malibu, I realized that although residential treatment can provide an essential foundation and sobriety, lasting recovery requires so much more:  integration, translating all that psychological insight into practical, sustainable change within all the challenges of daily life. Particularly the need for comprehensive, sustained support following residential treatment. For many clients, leaving treatment meant leaving behind what had become a trusted family of support—often just as they were returning to the relationships, environments, and responsibilities that presented their greatest challenges.

That experience profoundly shaped my approach to recovery coaching.

Over the years, my work has evolved into a highly individualized model integrating psychological insight, mindfulness, emotional awareness, and practical support for life beyond treatment. I believe that a coordinated community of care should ideally remain available for at least two to three years, adapting as clients' needs, circumstances, and recovery evolve. When appropriate, I help clients connect with other professionals and resources in their communities, building a network of support that extends beyond any single therapeutic relationship.

Experience has also deepened my appreciation for the profound importance of that relationship itself: the experience of being genuinely seen, understood, and supported through a process that rarely follows a straight line.  Recovery is far more than the absence of alcohol or drugs., it's the gradual process of rebuilding a life—restoring relationships, developing emotional resilience, rediscovering purpose, and learning to navigate everyday challenges without returning to familiar patterns of coping.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in respect for each individual's history, strengths, circumstances, and capacity for growth.

Ultimately, the goal is not simply to avoid relapse, but to create a life that is increasingly fulfilling, connected, and genuinely worth protecting.

It's not simply about leaving something behind., it's about discovering what becomes possible next.
